1 Thessalonians 5:18
"In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you."
Abraham Maslow gave the reputation to the concept of PEAK EXPERIENCES, which describe moments of happiness and fulfilment. These are moments that stir up reasons for appreciation of God's goodness. They are moments that should be accompanied with praises, because it pleased God to give you a taste of His goodness. When you consider your live in retrospect, I believe you would have a couple of such pleasant experiences. These could range from deliverance from major accidents, harvest of prayers, and change of testimonies. Hence, identify those peak experiences that illuminated your life with joy and appropriate them as channels of gratitude to God.
Another occasion for gratitude is what I captioned as temporal LEAK EXPERIENCES. These are experiences that get a man bleeding but ended up becoming his building blocks of gratitude. These are unpleasant events that you didn't sign up for but turned out to prepare you for greater accomplishment. Apostle Paul had reasons to appreciate God for upsetting his plan to persecute the Early Church while on his way to Damascus. The Lord made him to lose his sight for a space of three days, but thereafter restored his sight and gave him the vision to pursue the expansion of His kingdom. There are detours, losses and disappointments you might have experienced which probably made you bitter on the front end, but later made you better on the back end. Recall such experiences to mind and use them as building blocks of gratitude to God.
The greatest occasion a Christian could ever experience is heaven; the GREATEST EXPERIENCE. It is the close opposite of the Great Tribulation, which awaits those who reject the Gospel. Jesus laid the foundation for our heavenly experience and perfected it with His death, resurrection and ascension. Hence, the greatest consolation for the righteous in all his afflictions is the assurance of a place to call eternal home, where the praise of God would be unending. This anticipated experience inspires everlasting joy in the hearts of the righteous and inspires them to hold fast to their faith in the Lord. If you think your life is void of praises to God, think about God's grace which has kept you thus far; the unpleasant experience which you pulled through but left others six feet under and above all, the glory of heaven for as many whose names are inscribed in the Lamb's Book of Life.
