"but I beat my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, after I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected." - 1 Corinthians 9:27
The demands of the flesh are often poles apart from God's mandate for our lives. Many Christians are getting roped into a lifestyle that runs counter to God's purpose because they allow the ungodly desires of the flesh to overtake godliness. King David got his fingers burnt because he failed to FIGHT OFF THE UNGODLY APPETITE OF THE FLESH when he had a carnal knowledge of one of generals' wives. The incident temporarily kept him out of God's good graces. Consequently, he spent virtually his entire life fighting battles, which contrasts with the lifestyle of Solomon, his son, who had a peaceful reign over Israel. Had David exercised himself unto godliness and refrained from feeding the flesh, he would have escaped some of the troubles that attended his way.
Having attained a lofty position, a Christian might allow this to get to his or her head. Holding up King Nebuchadnezzar for an example, though not a lover of God, he arrogated to himself the glory of Babylon. Right off the top of his head, he thought of himself as incomparable. He was oblivious of God's existence and power to set up kings and to remove kings. Hence, he failed to KEEP OFF THE SPOTLIGHT OF PRIDE. He relished the perk of being the center of attraction. However, because God was not in his thought and having failed to give glory to Him, he was divinely humbled to share habitation with animals. If you are preoccupied with the desire to always be in the spotlight, it may be suggestive of an ungodly desire to advance the flesh.
When a Christian struggles to distinguish between the way of life and the way of perdition, it is an evidence of one who has lost sight of the Kingdom. Certainly, there are no similarities between light and darkness. This explains why light and darkness cannot cohabit. However, when a Christian chooses to feast his eyes on the gains of ungodliness, he runs the risk of blinding himself to divine revelation that is capable of saving his soul. Summing it up, a Christian who fails to RELINQUISH THE UNGODLY DESIRES THAT SEEM RIGHT IN HIS SIGHT would allow darkness to dictate his affairs. The Bible says that there is a way that seems right unto a man, and the end thereof is the way of destruction. May you never lose sight of the Kingdom of God in Jesus name. I also pray that God will endow you with the grace and the will to turn your back on the desires of the flesh, so you could escape the diversion of your destiny to the path of destruction in Jesus name.
