"Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God." - Psalm 42:11
Often times, life presents us with justifications for picking up emotional baggage in our journey to fulfilling God's purpose for our lives. Many people seem to run out of gas because they allow fear, anxiety, discouragement, disappointment and clouds of impossibilities to undermine their confidence in God. When the Psalmist knew that his soul is beginning to cave in to discouragement, he chose to snap out of it. When his emotional baggage would have taken its toll on his well-being and spiritual fitness, he chose to talk his soul out of being disquieted. He pep talked his soul to be cheerful and hopeful in God. Are you going through a sticky situation that is discouraging you from singing for joy? Take a cue from the Psalmist, who chose to allow his worries to fall by the wayside.
It is worthy of note that emotional baggage represents a WASTE OF SPACE in a man's heart. If you funnel negative thoughts into your mind, it would dilute your capacity to think positively. This accounts for why you must treat worry, anxiety and discouragement as unwelcome guests in your mind. Worry doesn't just drain the soul, it also puts a strain on a man's visibility into the bliss that lies ahead of him. Because many couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel, they funnel their energy into negative thinking and flood their minds with bags of emotional disease, which weakens the soul. In the end, they wind up making choices that leave them in a worse state.
Taking up emotional baggage is also a WASTE OF TIME. Worry and its companions aren't perfect substitute for appreciation. The time expended in anxiety doesn't worth the while because anxiety keeps its victims a mile away from actualising God's plan for their lives. While gratitude for small favours could spawn a twist of fate from zero to hero, worry would rather make its victim to twist in the wind of frustration. However, If you want to wiggle out of worry, complaints isn't the right vehicle. If you would bank on God's word and praise Him in advance, God would certainly ring down the curtain on everything causing you to grieve. As you stop short of hauling emotional baggage around, may God's peace and joy flood your heart in Jesus name.
