THE URGENCY OF THE GOSPEL

Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. - Luke 19:9

The Gospel is not a proposal you want to sleep on before you sign up for it. It is not the kind of message that you might want to put on the back burner because of the false assumption that it lacks urgency and importance. Those who allow the Gospel to slide are either ignorant or arrogant to admit its significance. It is important to note that the Gospel is the message of God's sacrificial love for mankind; demonstrated to open the door of escape from oppression of the devil and to upset his destructive agenda for humanity. On top of that, it is the power of God which is capable of translating a man from the realm of obscurity into God's marvelous light. It is commonplace for people (e.g. celebrities, top shots, the talk of the town, elites and the affluent) that are under the spotlight to playdown the essence of the Gospel. However, having God's light transcends being under the spotlight. It bears mentioning that having God's light endorses you as the light of the world, a city set on a hill, which cannot be undermined by the forces of darkness. It also implies that beyond your nationality on earth, you are counted a citizen of heaven. The message of the Gospel is to awake you to the bliss of companionship with God and the consequence of rejection of God's sacrificial love. Jesus knew the consequence of delayed commitment of His life as a ransom for sin. Hence, when the time became ripe for Him to pour out Himself as a ransom for sin, He didn't sleep on the mandate. He presented Himself without coercion and was offered up as a ransom for sin.

Today, Jesus is calling you to travel the road of repentance and submission to His will. Know that those who adjourn their day of salvation, while downplaying its urgency run the risk of perpetual deceit, manipulation and oppression of the devil. Eaten up with the falsehood of the devil, some have endorsed him as the emperor of their lives, failing to realise that the emperor has no clothe (of righteousness) to qualify as the lord of their lives.

It is also important to note that those who downplay the urgency of the Gospel run the risk of delaying God's plan for their lives. God has been waiting in the wings to set those who would travel the road of repentance on the flight to fulfilment and purposeful living. Knowing full well that God has been calling on you, while He waits on you, would you keep Him waiting till kingdom come? Today, cease from playing hard to yield everything to God. Zacchaeus understood the urgency of God's salvation. Hence, against all odds, he sought Jesus and became a recipient of God's salvation. So playing for time, thinking you would someday give evidence of your readiness to serve Him, might be too late. Hence, if you are not living a life pleasing to God, take a leap of faith, brushing aside your profile, portfolio or societal recognition; and Jesus would save your soul.

The ultimate consequence of taking the Gospel for granted is that the unbelieving runs the risk of crossing over to the other side of eternity without the robe of righteousness. Bear in mind that the Bible says it is appointed unto man, once to die and after which comes the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). Have you given thought to the reality of heaven and hell - two destinations that define the final fate of humanity? Would you sacrifice the bliss and glory of habitation in heaven on the altar of obsession with fame, power, position and pleasure? There are no prerogatives to opt for repentance or bank on purgatory once you cross the line of death into eternity. Today, get off from the circumference of the ungodly influence that is capable of playing havoc with God's plan for your life; and allow Jesus to lead you into His kingdom of righteousness, peace and joy in Holy Ghost. May you find the joy of salvation as you surrender all to Jesus today in Jesus name.
