And having brought them out, he was saying, "Sirs, what is necessary of me to do, that I may be saved?" - Acts 16:30
To surrender to Jesus isn't synonymous with promising the Lord that you won't be a bad driver while holding on to the steering wheel. It isn't a promise to drive according to God's will while observing divine traffic signs. It is important to note that inasmuch as you are still stuck in the driver's seat, you aren't off the starting block to the highway of holiness. Hence, to surrender to Jesus simply means taking your hands off your life, off the wheel and off everything God has made you to be. A song writer who understood what it means to surrender all to Jesus wrote, "I surrender all to You, everything I give to You; withholding nothing". If Jesus hasn't taken the wheel in your life, your destiny would potentially be caught up in speed bumps.
Taking your hands off your life is giving the Lord God the divine license to take ownership and leadership of your life. Know that if you singlehandedly decide the course of action to take while keeping God out of the loop, you would most likely be caught up in a danger that may be looming large down the road. And if its out of character for you to subject your preferences to God's will, like Jesus did before He laid down His life, you can't proclaim to have surrendered all.
Those who take their hands off their lives are willing to allow Jesus take the lead. They allow the Master to mould them into vessels unto honour. It also bears mentioning that the moment Jesus takes up the reins of your life, the devil cannot ruin your destiny, because you become a special project in His hands. Hence, don't push back the salvation of your soul. Now is the accepted time. Let Jesus take the wheel and you would be made free from every hook of the devil, to begin living up to God's expectations for your life. Pray with me, "Lord Jesus, I hand off my life to you, withholding nothing, forgive me my sins, cleans me with your blood and write my name in the Book of Life. Bestow on me the power to live for you all the days of my life in Jesus name."
