But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ - Phil 3:20
A man's final destination is predicated on his lifestyle and attitude to life. Those who want to make heaven, as their final destination, are circumspect enough to divest themselves of garments of filthiness, friendship with the world and fellowship with workers of iniquity. They are willing to measure up to God's standard because they want to end up in heaven. Hence, they make most use of the grace which God provides. They are motivated to keep on keeping on with God in spite of affliction. They keep replenishing their hunger and thirst for righteousness because it keeps them home and dry, in readiness for the Chief Bridegroom, Jesus Christ. To top it off, they are impassioned about living out their stewardship towards God, with an undivided loyalty. Most importantly, they see heaven not just as a destination but also as a motivation to help them keep to the straight and narrow.
The thought of heaven makes a believer to see heaven as a MOTIVATION TOWARDS RIGHTEOUSNESS. Those who are unwilling to relinquish the pleasure of the world don't exhibit the readiness to measure up to God's standard. They nurture a false sense of identity that they are righteous while playing ball with the friends of the world to displease God. God's standard hasn't change and the inscription on it requires all and sundry who mention the name of Christ to depart from iniquity. Those who aren't motivated by ungodly affections, go all out to keep filthiness at bay. If you are hobnobbing with the devil, you are robbing yourself of the access to God's Holy City.
Those who bail out on God because of impatience in waiting on Him, run the risk of falling into the hands of the devil. However, when it registers with you that you have been registered as a heavenly citizen, heaven becomes to you as a MOTIVATION TOWARDS PATIENCE. For many Christians, patience is a road less travelled. This accounts for why some chicken out of the Christian race. If you don't disabuse your mind of the falsehood that the Christian life is not fascinating, while forgetting that it's righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost, you would allow the devil to fast talk you into decamping from light to darkness. John Maxwell wrote, " Affliction is meant to make you better if you won't allow it to make you bitter". So endurance to the end is the name of the game if you are really keen about making heaven.
It bears mentioning that heaven inspires the righteous with the MOTIVATION TOWARDS LOVING KINDNESS. Bob Gass wrote, "The test of love is to forgive the guilty". From another perspective, I believe the test of love is to burn the bridge behind when you say I DO to Jesus. That means you are willing to walk up a storm with Jesus both in the good and the bad season. Those who aim to reign with Christ don't allow wrath and bitter envy to settle in with a bang in their hearts. Hence, they choose to follow peace with all men and remain united with God in love. Is your love for God waxing cold? Take a leap of faith today and come to Jesus to birth a new fire and a new beginning towards an inseparable fellowship with Him.
