"But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name:" - John :12
Sonship in God's kingdom is not earned but is a gift earmarked for as many that would express their faith in Jesus. The Bible says that, "...as many as believed in Him, He (Jesus) gave them power to become the sons of God" (John 1:12). It is in character for sons of God to pledge and live up to their allegiance to God. According to Dr. Thomas Constable, "Whereas presenting our bodies to Christ for His service is not a requirement for salvation, the person who makes this presentation furnishes proof that he or she is a child of God by doing so." This reveals that true sons of God PRESENT THEIR BODIES AS A LIVING SACRIFICE UNTO GOD. To boil it down, they are willing to commit themselves to a life of service to God and give undivided loyalty to Him. A true son, who is not a prodigal son, doesn't divide his loyalty between obsession with the affairs of the world and the craving to please God. Put in a different way, they extinguish the passion to pursue ungodliness while abandoning themselves to the pursuit of God. The question is, which side of the divide are you? If you aren't on the side of a lifetime of commitment to God, you need to get off your comfort zone and off the bench, to offer your entirety to God, because He is the fountainhead of everything that you are and would become.
True sons of God are also characterised by their PURSUIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS AND PEACE, which is attainable by walking out their salvation, and living peaceably with all men as far as practicable. They understand that God's kingdom is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost; and that anything that falls short of it, is displeasing unto God. Hence, it bears mentioning that if you are ill-disposed to doing God's will, the devil will, of course, spot you as a friend and would go all out to wheel you out of God's jurisdiction. This explains why the devil gains the upper hand over rebellious and disobedient children of God. But true sons are known for their allegiance to live peaceably and godly. That's why they keep investing all of their time towards preparing for eternity
Finally, being endorsed with the right to shout and sing the praise of Jesus, the sons of God PLEASURE THEMSELVES IN WORSHIPPING HIM. While God is always on the trail for those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth, those who satisfy God's requirement are those who have pledged allegiance to Him and are inclined to praise Him till kingdom come. According to Adolph Saphir, a renowned theologian, "The heart that praises God is delivered from anxious care and self-centered gloom." This reveals that true worshippers do not crack under the strain of worry because they choose to worship the living God with all of their hearts and are assured of His faithfulness. Finally, if you fall short of these attributes, God's grace is sufficient for you to live out the life of a true son. Today, pledge your allegiance to Him; surrender all to Him; commit yourself to a life of righteousness and peace; and ultimately become a God-pleaser and praiser, which is the chief attribute of citizens of heaven.
