“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert – Isaiah 43:18-19
Giving much thought to yesterday's failure can keep a man within the sphere of discouragement. If the thought of your past is leaving you to count your losses, it would discount your confidence in tomorrow's prospects of success. Many people are living in obscurity because they chose to reside in the eclipse of fear, doubt and discouragement. However, when you RECOGNISE YOUR PAST AS A PASSAGE TOWARDS REACHING YOUR DESIRED FUTURE, it relieves you of worry and anxiety and births in you the steam to turn the page and move on for new and exciting experiences. Being a former persecutor of the Church, Apostle Paul chose to relive his experience with a sense of gratitude (and not disappointment) for God's grace to proclaim the Gospel, which he had once intended to upset. Hence, don't allow the memories of yesterday to upset the prospects of today, regardless of whatever it might be.
While some past experiences could be emotionally draining, others are marked with challenges aimed at preparing you for greater accomplishments. David didn't stop short of taking up the gauntlet against Goliath. His memory of his past victories stirred up his confidence to proceed against Goliath. He knew he was equal to the challenge with God on his side. Being a youth with no arsenal of war other than a sling and few stones, the camp of Israel, who had been under the threat of Goliath, were amazed at his confidence. David knew his latter taste of victory would be greater than the former when he reduces Goliath to defeat. In the end, David's RECOUNT OF HIS PAST VICTORIES and confidence in God got him a landmark victory that stirred up a widespread celebration in Israel. Hence, build on yesterday’s pleasant memories as stepping stones for greater accomplishments.
Finally, rising above your past would require you to REFRESH YOUR MIND WITH NEW HOPES AND EXPECTATIONS. The Bible says that, "Remember not the former things, neither consider the things of old, behold I will do a new thing (Isaiah 49:18-19). What the Lord God meant is for you to divorce yourself from the grip of the past, because He is about to glorify you with joy-provoking experiences. Hence, you need to be upbeat about the future and build your hope on the promises of God, which are yes and amen. And inasmuch as God cannot lie, your supernatural upgrade into stardom will never elude you in Jesus name.
