By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. - Gen. 2:2
God is not a workaholic but He never goes on sabbatical. After He had created the heaven and earth and the fullness thereof, the Scripture says that '... the Lord God rested from all His works.' However, God does not shut His eyes because His eyes go to and fro as the Superintendent General of heaven, earth and of the affairs that go on under the earth. The divine alertness of God is an attribute that makes Him never to sleep nor slumber. Nevertheless, whenever God observes a rest, it’s partly to enable Him to make an assessment of His handiwork and never to close shop.
After putting in a hard day at work, Jesus advised His disciples to catch their breath (Mark 6:31). He didn’t want them to over-burden themselves with the enormity of tasks before them. He knew that if they choose to be workaholics, they will wear themselves out and may never be in top form for the next day outreach. Hence, failure to rest from your daily labour would endanger your health, relationship and may put the skids under your relevance. It may keep you away from getting in the swim of things because you chose to spread yourself too thin.
While it is beneficial to rest from physical labour, it is also healthy to enjoy rest from burden, affliction, limitation and emotional stress. Until you enter into God’s rest, your body, soul and spirit will never attain a state of perfect peace. Anyone who honours the invitation of Jesus and acknowledges His Lordship finds rest for his soul even in the days of adversity. You don’t need to wait for the yearly international declaration of rest day, if you invite Jesus into your life.: in Him, there is assurance of daily rest from all forms of unrest. Hence, I pray that God put a stop to every form of unrest that is programmed to endanger your body, soul and spirit in Jesus name. Enjoy the divine rest of the Lord in Jesus name
