THE COURAGEOUS FRONT
1 Samuel 17:32
"David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
Eddie Rickenbacker observed, "Courage is doing what you’re afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you’re scared.” This reveals that courage is the currency you need to trade your way towards achieving your goal. Fear would always want to hold you down. However, courage helps you to underestimate your fears and gives you the momentum to display your capability. It therefore goes without saying that putting up a brave front increases your odds of becoming a frontrunner and not a bystander. It is commonplace for bystanders to only watch how things happen and not to make things happen. When successful people get off the starting block, bystanders don't get in on the groundfloor, neither do they give the evidence to join in half way. They prefer to stay on the sidelines while others take the stage to earn their spurs. When the thought of making mistakes hit the courageous, they remain resolved to hit the road, and not to sit idly by to be told how the journey panned out. It bears mentioning that you can't be spotted as a frontrunner if you relish the backseat. This is because it is only customary for bystanders to take the backseat.
It is also important to note that courage pays big dividend. It is often said that fortune favours the brave. Therefore, it won't be out of place to say that frustration hangs over the head of the braveless. Have you had a time when you wanted to take a bold step and fear walks in to dictate the course of your action? Such fear won't make you to push ahead, to pursue your goals and aspirations. In II Kings 7, four lepers took a bold step to secure a living in the territory of the enemy. They decided to put their lives on the line, not minding the consequence of death. Instead of death knocking on the door, they got fed and refreshed. Their resolve to seek their livelihood paid off against all odds. Instead of starving away in famine, fortune smiled on them.
It is also worthy of note that people who stop short of advancing in life do so, probably because they allow the fear of failure to overtake them. Hence, they run out of steam and momentum to fight their way through in the face of oppositions. The children of Israel couldn't square up to Goliath because his stature sends continuous shivers down their spines. Hence they fell prey to the fright of defeat. Conversely, when David appeared on the battleground, he put up a brave front to confront Goliath. David flaunted the name of the Lord and the victory, which the Lord God gave him over the lion and the bear. He had the confidence in the Lord that history would repeat itself even in a much more amazing manner. So it happened that when David proceeded against Goliath, he had a sweatless victory over the giant. In spite of David's stature, which pales in comparison to Golaith, he took a bold step. Is fear holding you down from making headway in life? Choose to take a bold step today even as the Lord orders your step. Don't stop short of the drive to advance to the next level. Be liberated from that spirit of fear and walk with your head raised high and your shoulders squared to carry the day, with the strength which the Lord God provides, in Jesus name.
