No one can get a mileage from selling him or herself short or from lowering ones expectations, especially when you are capable of exceeding expectations. Those who lower their expectations due to fear and low self-esteem will find themselves below the curve and would limit their capability to maximise their potential. On the flip side, successful people RAISE THEIR SIGHTS and refuse to hide behind false assumption that they cannot soar high. Raising your sights will prod you to spread your wings. It will help you to realise that performing below your capability does not pay big dividends. You can make significant advancement in life if you shift your focus from the average life to living the maximum life. Needless to say that focusing on the big picture will set the stage for your flight to success.
To set yourself up for success will also require that you REPLACE OR SUBSTITUTE FEAR WITH COURAGE. To become successful will require that you set great store by your ability to succeed and not in the likelihood that you will fail. Courage helps you to leverage off your determination to hit the mark. John Maxwell wrote, "Each time you display bravery of any kind, you make an investment in your courage." You can invest much in your courage to the extent that your shift focus from your fears. Joshua, the successor Moses, would have set himself up for failure if he had chickened out on the mission to take over the mantle of leadership of the Israelites. With the display of courage, you would pull the plug on fear from playing havoc with your ability to succeed.
In setting yourself up for success, you also need to RESIST THE THOUGHT TO CALL IT QUITS. Whilst it is not impossible for the thought of failure to shuttle through your mind, you must shut it up and rather think success. Whilst keeping sight of a challenging and achievable goal, you need to gear up and push ahead against all odds. You can only get to the finish line if your thought lines up with the determination to hit the target. Yielding to thoughts of failure will mean throwing in the towel. You can't afford to give up when there is light at the end of the tunnel. As long as it matters to keep pushing ahead, you need to resist the urge to hit the brakes. Henceforth, make up your mind to look beyond the present limitations, disappointments and aborted attempts in the pursuit of your goal. With God on your side, keep within your stride in pursuit of the future your desire.
