A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger – Prov. 15:1
If you want to be a fruitful and successful Christian you must learn how to overcome the spirit of anger. If you allow the spirit of anger to dictate your speech, you will be breaching the Kingdom principle of peaceful living. A Christian who is reactive and chooses to vent his anger profusely at his fellow brethren, for their shortcomings, creates the atmosphere of strife, bitterness and acrimony.
Until you learn how to respond softly in the time of anger, you will keep endangering your spirit-man from enjoying seamlessly connectivity to the influence and direction of the Spirit of God. Elisha temporarily lost divine connectivity when he reacted with violence against the youths that insulted his personality. Although the display of anger is inevitable at sometimes, yet you must be slow to wrath, slow to speak and quick to hear as prescribed by the Bible (James 1:19).
When someone gets under your skin, speaking softly helps you to:
1. Manage your emotions - With the fruit of self-control, you can exercise dominion over the spirit of anger when your enemies stirs you to wrath
2. Maintain your kingdom identity as an incurable peace-maker – If you find it difficult to display the fruit of gentleness when you are provoked to anger, you will graciously lose your divine identity as a peace-maker
3. Manage relationship and difficult people in your neighbourhood – If you don’t suppress the spirit of anger from stirring you to speak unwisely, you may make a huge wreck of your good relationship with man and God.
Your ability to speak softly is not a weakness but a special strength that makes you a reference point as a peacemaker, in the face of stormy and intense atmosphere of strife and bitterness. May the Lord enable you to speak softly in order to avert wrath and bitterness in your domain in Jesus name.
